Ganja. Pot. Kush. Hash. Whatever you want to call it, it's still marijuana. Weed as we know it has been prevalent in most American lives.
Marijuana is the most common illegal drug used in the United States today.
There are 15 states including the District of Columbia that have legalized the use of marijuana.
Although medicinal marijuana is legal in California, voters recently defeated Proposition 19.
The ballot measure would have legalized growing and possession outright.
We have applied media effects theories and media literacy concepts while analyzing editorial cartoons illustrating stories and issues related to the legalization of marijuana. Through the editorial cartoonists' depictions, we have come to find that there is about an equal divide for the support of legalizing marijuana and that both have different ideas of the effects of using cannibis.
Those FOR the legalization of marijuana argue that marijuana has no detrimental effects on the brain and that it will help tax revenue to legalize and regulate the marijuana user's market. Benefits can also include temporary relief from many diseases and conditions.
Those AGAINST legalizing marijuana, give evidence of marijuana's long-term effects on a person's health and argue that there is no proof that the government would be able to regulate marijuana if legalized.
Below is a video we put together to show a random sample of opinions gathered from Utah State Students about the legalization of marijuana. Although it was on the spot and very controversial we would like to thank all participants. We respect all the expressed opinions. If video does not appear CLICK HERE.
